About
One of my favorite writers, Douglas Adams, once wrote: “I always think that the chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is to say hang the sense of it and just keep yourself occupied.”
I tend to agree with him. That’s how my blog was born; as an outlet for me to talk about all the things I enjoy and get excited about — food, television, music, cooking, books, video games, movies (and did I mention food?) — as well as my other passion, writing. These are the things that interest me, amuse me, occupy me, and keep me off the streets and out of trouble.
These are all long-term interests. I’ve been an avid reader since before I was three; it was at that age that I got a television for my room because I could already read the TV listings and argue about what I wanted to watch. I began cooking at age five, under the direction of my grandmother, and wrote my first “short story” of sorts around six or seven.
As I grew up, all of these pursuits stuck, but particularly the arguing and writing. This led me to study journalism and English literature at Memphis State University and law at the University of Tennessee (Did I mention that I’m REALLY good at the arguing part?). My career path has been convoluted at best, and includes office administration and teaching. But writing has always been the thing I have enjoyed the most, and is what I always keep coming back to in one form or another.
Actually, correct that — I shouldn’t mention growing up, because I’m not convinced I ever did. At heart, I’m still the nerdy science-fiction fangirl that I’ve always been. I get excited about things easily, and want to share my excitement with others.
Which brings us back to why we’re here. I love pop culture — I love how it brings people together. And I love sharing it through my writing and discussing it with others.
That’s what the blog part is about; it’s where I’ll share things that I think are fun or interesting or irritate me. It’s where I’ll “squee” over a TV show or occasionally even rant about something political. (Don’t worry, I’m a libertarian. Generally I won’t go off about anything political unless it’s guaranteed to offend EVERYBODY.)
And then there’s the “Writing” page. That’s where you can find links to my formal, published writing. And where I’ll generally be much better behaved.
So please read and comment if you like. If you’d like to contact me personally, there’s lots of ways to do that, too. And don’t worry. The “moody” part is just me being ironic. Mostly.
