Book Signing — Teaching Hope

If you are in Memphis this Wednesday evening, October 21, I urge you to join me at Davis-Kidd Booksellers on Poplar. From 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., contributor and graduate of the Freedom Writers program, Suzanna Maddox, will discuss and sign Teaching Hope: Stories from the Freedom Writer Teachers and Erin Gruwell.

FreedomWriters

Erin Gruwell, whose story was made famous in the movie Freedom Writers, has not only changed the lives of her own inner-city students by helping them find their own voices, she also works through the Freedom Writers Foundation to reach out to other students across the country, and to help our nation’s teachers reach out to the kids in their own classrooms. Ten years ago, the original Freedom Writers Diary was published, sharing the students’ stories. Now, Teaching Hope shares a collection of stories from the teachers who are out educating on the front lines every day.

Suzanna is a 10th grade English teacher at Horn Lake High School, and one of only about 150 teachers across the country invited to participate in the Freedom Writers training in California. She is also a great person, a wonderful mom, and a dear friend.

If you can’t make it to Davis-Kidd, you can also catch Suzanna Wednesday morning on WREG Channel 3’s Live at 9, where she will also be promoting the book.
